V.S.O.P. #93 MODE 205 THE BOB COOPER-CONTE CANDOLI QUINTET
Bob Cooper (tenor), Conte Candoli (trumpet), Ross Tompkins (piano), John Leitham (bass), Paul Kreibich (drums).
Recorded, June 25, 1993, at the Hyatt Newporter, Newport Beach, CA; Session Producer: K-LON FM; Engineer: Steven Barker; Remote Facilities: BBAT Productions; Cover Design: Karl Hubenthal; Mastering: John Jungklaus; Liner Notes: James Rozzi. Recorded in June 1993 at the Hyatt Newporter in Newport Beach, this album may very well be the last recorded performance featuring Bob Cooper. As this album clearly reveals, Bob's playing was as energetic and lyrical at the twilight of his career as it had been in his youth when he played with Stan Kenton and the Lighthouse All-Stars. Conte Candoli is also in fine form, and Ross Tompkins is thoroughly musical and inventive throughout this program of straight-ahead bebop and standards, with special emphasis on compositions by Dizzy Gillespie. A very fine album with outstanding artwork by Karl Hubenthal and liner photos courtesy of Ray Avery and Conte Candoli.
