Bobby Troup (piano), Stu Williamson (trumpet), Bob Enevoldsen (valve trombone), Ted Nash (tenor), Ronnie Lang (alto, tenor), Buddy Clark (bass), Mel Lewis (drums).
Recorded, July, 1957 at Radio Recorders, Hollywood, CA Engineer: Bones Howe Liner Notes: Joe Quinn Producer: Red Clyde Cover Design: Eva Diana
Bobby Troup's July 1957 recording for Mode Records was originally intended as a showcase for his piano playing. As things progressed from deciding to make a record to selecting the material, arranging it and rehearsing it, Bobby collaborated with Bob Enevoldsen, and the focus shifted from his performing talents to his arranging talents. Because the original idea was to demonstrate Bobby Troup's instrumental talents, there is only one original composition included, "I See Your Bass Before Me", which he wrote for the session. This is a very nice swinging Mode session that will not fail to please jazz fans and, in particular, fans of Bobby Troup.
