In July of 1957, shortly after making this recording, Marty Paich became musical director of Mode Records. As a result, he was directly involved in over half of the sessions Mode recorded. Few recordings exist of Marty Paich in a trio, especially as leader, so this album is quite a treat.
The music of Marty Paich is more than the great arrangements for which he is justly famous. This album presents the many facets of his playing and writing: block chord laden ballads, great blues feeling and a jaunty swinging up tempo style. A great recording, and a fitting tribute to the outstanding musicianship of Marty Paich.
