  Bill Holman's arrangements are as unique and recognizable in this small group setting as they are in his writing for big bands. The group, with Jimmy Rowles on piano, Lee Katzman on trumpet and Wilford Middlebrook on bass is tight and confident. This session was produced by Bill Holman with the intent of bringing together the melodic contrapuntal arranging style of West Coast jazz with the dynamics of a hard swinging East-Coast style quintet. Recorded and Engineered by Bones Howe at Radio Recorders, the stereo separation and clarity are exceptional.
